A reminder for all union members planning to vote in the November 3 election: The beginning of the registration for absentee voters is around the corner. With COVID-19 still a major concern, you may not want to visit a polling place on Election Day.

You may apply for an absentee ballot from August 11 through October 28. There are two options to apply:

  • Contact your county clerk by phone, fax or mail to request an application.
  • Use the Absentee Ballot Application Portal. That link will appear on the Secretary of State’s official site (https://sos.wv.gov/Pages/default.aspx) on the 11th.

Note: The Secretary of State will NOT automatically mail out absentee applications to all registered voters, as was the case in the Primary Election.

For those not registered to vote, the deadline to do that is October 13. Early voting runs October 21-31. Absentee ballots can be postmarked as late as Election Day, and the deadline to hand-deliver an absentee ballot to your County Clerk’s office is the day before Election Day, November 2.

We urge all our members to vote and, if possible, participate in the campaign process in other ways.
