House Bill 4020, which would have split the Department of Health and Human Resources into two departments, was vetoed by Governor Jim Justice. The DHHR, the state government’s largest department, will remain intact.

In his announcement Wednesday, Justice cited the enormity of the task, and impact on a number of federal funding streams. “Additionally, this bill would have split the DHHR by January of next year, but it wouldn’t have made budgetary changes take effect until six months after that,” he said.
