DHHR secretary Bill Crouch is clearly pushing to close Hopemont, Lakin and Jackie Withrow hospitals, as well as the John Manchin Senior Health Care Center.

Crouch is looking to sell licensed beds and send patients to smaller facilities run by the private sector. He cited the age of the buildings and the maintenance costs.

He said he is talking with three companies about transferring patient beds to the private sectors. He says all four communities would benefit economically, and workers would make higher salaries in the private sector.
