Sixteen UE Local 170 members from ten different West Virginia state workplaces attended a steward council training on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at the Local 170 Union Hall in Charleston.
The steward training, conducted jointly with West Virginia University’s Institute for Labor Studies and UE, covered basic steward duties, rights, and preparing for and conducting a level one grievance hearing. The steward council training is part of ongoing UE educational work to empower public workers to defend and fight for their rights in a state without public sector collective bargaining rights.
