Nearly 150 new members were organized during the last three months in extensive organizing activities across West Virginia, culminating in a week-long organizing blitz in the Charleston area during the first week of August. New members were organized at Division of Highways (DOH) garages, Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) offices, state hospitals and nursing homes and other state agencies.<--break->

UE Local 170 members during an organizational meeting this summer. Almost 150 new members joined.

The UE national union provided additional staff and resources during the months-long organizing activities. During the organizing blitz in the Charleston-area, the UE Eastern Region provided funding and recruited rank-and-file volunteers to assist from UE locals in Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina. UE Local 170 members also helped organize new members at their workplaces and assisted during the blitz, which included hotdog meet and greets at six large state workplaces, including the State Capitol Complex.

Additional organizing activities are being planned for the coming months. If you would like to help organize a meet and greet at your workplace, please contact the UE Local 170 office at 304-699-4401. The more members our local has, the stronger our voice becomes at work and at the State Capitol in Charleston.
