Workers Rally Over Deteriorating Work Conditions
Workers rallied outside of Sharpe Hospital in Weston Saturday against what they call "deteriorating work conditions."
A group of UE Local 170 union members rallied to draw attention to issues like over-bedding, a lack of representation, and mandatory overtime, all things they say are causing patient and staff safety issues. Workers say they have tried to set up meetings with CEO Parker Haddix, but haven't been successful since May.
"We would like to get some of these issues resolved. Our agenda seems to be staying the same. We're moving forward. I think that Mr. Haddix can be very helpful with us, but at this time we're sort of stagnating," said Craig Miller, Recreation Specialist at Sharpe Hospital and union member.
5 News contacted hospital administration, but they declined to comment on the issue.
