A two-year campaign by UE Local 170 Division Of Highways (DOH) members has won a new DOH pay plan with step wage increases for the Transportation Worker classifications. For the first time, nearly 3,000 DOH Transportation Workers will be able to move up the pay grades of their classifications with step wage increases. The new DOH step pay plan takes effect on January 1.

UE Local 170’s campaign began in 2012 with a presentation at the West Virginia Legislature. Over the next year, UE Local 170 DOH members collected more than 1,000 signatures of DOH employees on petitions in all ten DOH Districts calling for a fair DOH wage structure with step wage increases. UE Local 170 members delivered the petitions to WV DOT Secretary Paul Mattox in August 2013. Throughout 2014, UE Local 170 DOH members met with DOH Deputy Commissioner John McBrayer to evaluate the progress of the new DOH step pay plan and to press for its implementation.

UE Local 170 will continue the fight to ensure that the new pay plan is implemented fairly and improved upon in the coming years. You can read a Charleston Gazette news story on the new DOH pay plan by clicking on the link here.
